As a manufacturing engineer at Optimal Design you will:

  • Lead and coordinate DFM/DFA efforts between the engineering team and manufacturing center, including design reviews.
  • Perform Design For Manufacturing (DFM) Reviews on internally designed mechanical parts (injection molded, cast, 3D print, machined, die cut and etc) through working closely with the mechanical engineering team.
  • Perform Design For Assembly (DFA) Reviews on projects and provide recommendations on design changes/modifications to reduce assembly time, complexity or cost.
  • Lead the interaction with domestic and overseas tooling/fabrication vendors with respect to tool design, process flow, equipment selection, DFM, proposals, part fabrication, schedule and issue tracking.
  • Review and provide feedback on DFM packages provided by vendors with respect to gate layout, Core/Cavity/Slider/Lifter design review, and ejector pin locations.
  • Create manufacturing assembly instructions for device subassemblies and assemblies. Including design and development of the 3D CAD of Assembly and Factory Test Fixtures.
  • Create detailed 2D Drawings of parts based off of 3D CAD database and working with individual part designers.
  • Checks and approves engineering drawings for technical completeness, clarity, tolerance stack analysis, conformance with standards, dimensional accuracy and the correct specification of materials and processes.
