Optimal Design is the proud recipient of the GOLD award in the product category for its design of the Cambium RDB 350 military grade portable broadband radio. The Spark Awards is the world’s first multi-level design competition. It’s about Change—designed change. Change for the better: studied, researched, cognizant of criteria like sustainability, suitability, context, inventiveness, process, universality—and yes, beauty.
The Cambium RDB 350’s design converges an IP-68 and Mil-spec 810G compliant enclosure that can dissipate 60W of power with ergonomic features and design language that oozes modern military. The RDB 350 provides value through its “rapid deployment” features such as aggressive grab handles with integrated cord wraps for strain relief, which replaces cumbersome cable pass-throughs. Easy access connectors and quick-mount pole attachments were also designed with limited exposure to enemy fire in mind. The enclosure was ergonomically designed and engineered to be used as a shrapnel shield to help keep our soldiers out of harm’s way. The ruggedness and reliability of the case design make it a unique, high-performance product in the fixed broadband market and a first in the military communications space.
Optimal Design is extremely honored to accept this esteemed award, and to be placed among some of the most influential product designs of 2012! Check out the other talented GOLD award winners in our category:
